Origin: The name chlorine originates from the Greek word "chloros"
meaning "pale green" as it is a yellowish-green gas at standard state.
Chlorine is detectable as an odor at 3.5 ppm; 1000 ppm is fatal in a few short
breaths
Discovered by: Carl William Scheele, Sweden, 1774. Sir Humphry Davy proposed and confirmed chlorine as an element in 1810.
Uses: Used as a war gas in 1915. Chlorine gas is a respiratory irritant: the gas irritates the mucous membranes and the liquid burns the skin. -Production of safe drinking water -PVC piping
