Minigrant Application Form

ATTENTION TEACHERS

The Rochester Section of the American Chemical Society is a member of the Rochester Council of Scientific Societies (RCSS) and a proud supporter of RCSS Minigrants. Minigrants provide a means for math and science teachers to supplement their standard funding. Up to $200 can be requested by submitting a grant application. Applications are reviewed and judged on the basis of their relevance to science and math, on their lasting impact on students and classroom facilities, and further aspects such as innovation, creativity, new teaching concepts, and numbers of students served.

Examples of successful grant applications include:

• A grant for the purchase of special telescope filters to block light pollution. The filters were used to improve the visibility of faint astronomical objects (clusters, nebulae, and galaxies) when viewed from urban areas.
• A grant for materials to build bluebird nesting boxes. The nesting boxes were built by a Regents Biology class as part of their construction of a bluebird trail.
• A grant for the  parts to build an electronic timing device with 10 millisecond resolution. Students used the timer to study the physics of moving bodies.
• A grant for two pH meters that were used to monitor the acidity/alkalinity in salt and freshwater aquariums and in Lake Ontario.
