An interesting container to use is a wooden frame constructed from 3/4" x 3/4" wood strips. The inside of the frame should be just over 7 marbles wide (about 7.1 marbles width). One side of the frame can be attached (screws) to a piece of plexiglas. The inside of the frame is just large enough to build either square or hexagonal layers. The nice thing about the frame with plexiglas is that it can be used on an overhead projector and the structure projected on the screen. It also eliminates the fear that the structure will collapse if marbles are stacked too close to the edge, since all edges are supported.
