The Holland research group is interested in understanding biological catalysts (enzymes). We synthesize compounds that either resemble potential intermediates or undergo catalytically relevant reactions. Our goals are: (1) to design molecules that can perform interesting transformations like those accomplished by enyzmes, and (2) gain mechanistic information that helps to understand the mechanism of the catalysts.
